Additional Support

Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are made for students who meet the criteria for having a learning disability. Students with IEPs may be in a general education classroom and get Resource or Inclusion services from Special Education staff, or they may be assigned to a Self-Contained Program.

This program is designed to serve students with IEPs whose least restrictive environment is a general education classroom. The Resource Specialist and/or Instructional Aide provide support and appropriate academic interventions so that these students may find academic success in the general education program.

Please share any speech concerns you have with your child’s teacher, who can refer a child for next steps. Qualifying students receive therapy to address speech-language disorders.

The first line of support for a child experiencing signs of stress is to work with their teacher to ensure that the classroom community is addressing the child’s emotional needs. Communication from the family in case of any emotionally charged experience can help school staff understand why a child’s moods or behaviors may be changing. School staff may consult district mental health support providers if the child’s stress is affecting learning or social skill development.
