Parent Committees

Glenview is a great school because the principal, certificated and classified staff, parents, and students work together to create a community that values the importance of education. We are all committed to ensuring that each and every child achieves academic success. You are encouraged to volunteer for various tasks and activities around the school in any capacity that matches skills, interests, and schedule. Tutoring and assistance with other small jobs is also welcomed within the classroom.

The following list is a small sampling of Glenview committees. If you'd like to volunteer for a committee, please email the PTA or visit the committee page on our parent platform, where you can join the committees directly.

Glenview Social Club

Are you interested in hearing more about ways you can help out at school, and do you want to meet other parents and help build on the larger community at Glenview? The Glenview Social Club gathers in the evening at a local establishment. We also host movie nights for the kids at school, we partner with the PTA to put on the amazing Fall Carnival and Haunted House, we organize baseball outings for parents, and more. Join us!

Black History Month Committee

We have a committee that organizes events during Black History Month and in the past has culminated in a STEAM Night event.

Garden Committee

From learning where food comes from and how plant and insect life cycles work to enjoying the beauty of quiet spaces, a school garden can be a big benefit to children and teachers alike. We are hoping to create planters, planting beds, and shade structures and will need help maintaining the spaces throughout the year. Please get in touch if you have a few hours to spare on a weekend or are looking for a regular monthly commitment. We also would love help with curriculum coordination (getting teachers to use the garden for lessons) and soliciting donations (from seed packets to garden journals to garden art). For more information, see the Glenview Grows page.

Found It! Committee

Glenview's very own Lost and Found. We also organize the uniform exchange where clean uniforms in good condition are available to all or may be donated.

Fundraising Committee

The Fundraising Committee (aka FRC) at Glenview Elementary focuses on two main fundraising events throughout the school year. Generally, we start off the year with our annual campaign in the fall, called the Griffin Fund; then we host a Read-A-Thon in the late winter/early spring. Some of the roles our volunteers have helped with range from creating visual materials, writing/editing, connecting with local businesses, party/event planning and decorating, organizing event volunteers, advertising, and so much more. We are a small, fun, and dedicated group and are always excited to hear new ideas and invite talents of all sorts. Do you have a hidden talent and an hour to spare? Contact: FRC.

Glenview Equity Team: Inspiring Togetherness

The mission of the Glenview Equity Team: Inspiring Togetherness (G.E.T. I.T.) is to foster and maintain a richly diverse Glenview community committed to providing all students and families with equitable access to learning opportunities, information and resources. The group will work collaboratively with staff, families, Glenview community partners, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), and the School Site Council (SSC).

Glenview Safety Committee

Glenview Safety Committee is committed to making sure that there is sufficient water, food, medical supplies, and shelter in the event of a disaster.

Glenview Grapevine

We have a weekly newsletter that documents all the wonderful things taking place at Glenview. Don't forget to submit your stories to share with the rest of the community! Deadline is Wednesdays at 5pm. Contact: Glenview Communications.

Fall Carnival & Haunted House

The Fall Carnival is one of Glenview's more enjoyable traditions. Kids and adults come dressed in fabulous costumes. There are creepy games to play, prizes to be won, faces to be painted, and delicious home-baked treats to be had. You will find Halloween and Day-of-the-Dead crafts, fantastic lunch, and endless fun!

Book Fair

Each year the PTA sponsors a Book Fair to encourage reading and to bring books to the forefront for all our students. The kids are always abuzz with excitement, and we have a Saturday social event with coffee, tea, goodies to eat, and shopping for busy families. We also are open at least one evening to accommodate working parents. Teachers sign up to bring their classes to the Fair as a group, and the Fair is also open after school for families and neighbors to visit. Many volunteers are needed to help with the week long fair. It’s a fun way to help your school!

Kinder Welcome Committee

The Kinder Welcome Committee’s mission is to introduce prospective families to Glenview and welcome incoming kindergarten (and TK) families to our amazing school. In November, we organize the Info Night for prospective families, and lead school tours in December and January. In April/May, we run the incoming Kinder/TK Participation day. Each year the KWC hosts the Kinder Tea in August so our newest Griffins can meet their teachers and classmates. If you enjoy event planning, talking to parents about all Glenview has to offer and making new families feel part of the community, please join us! We’re looking for some more volunteers, particularly parents of kindergarteners or first graders.

Picnics in the Park

In the past, parents have organized monthly Picnics in the Park! They met at Dimond Park from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. Bring your family, food (something to share if you like) and stuff to play with (bikes, balls, etc.).

Library

Classes come in to the Glenview library once a week to hear a story and check out books. If you ever played library when you were younger, love sharing books with little ones, or just love books yourself, there's an opportunity for you to experience working in one.

We are fortunate to have a wonderful crew of parent volunteers to run the Glenview library, and we'd love for you to join our team. Join the Konstella comittee.

School Site Council (SSC)

The SSC meets monthly to develop and monitor the Site Plan for Student Achievement. Council members include the principal, parents, classroom teachers, and other school staff elected by their peers. The group is charged with overseeing the use of restricted funds distributed by the federal and state governments, such as Title 1. Participation in the SSC gives parents excellent place to discuss school issues.

Science Team

The Science Team is a group of parents committed to exposing Glenview student to more Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) opportunities than the school day allows. We support teachers in providing FOSS, hands-on science curriculum to our students. We also organize special school assemblies and science fair informational workshops. After the annual Science Far, we host a Family Science Night full of fun activities. In addition to those interested in science, we need people who are great at organizing, networking within the community, and creating bulletin boards and flyers.

Room Parents

This program supports our wonderful teachers to do what they do best: teach and inspire our kids! Room Parents facilitate teacher-parent-communication and coordinate volunteers to help the teacher, set up online communication, organize class parties and field trips, and much more. We need our teachers, and they need us! See the Room Parent Handbook.

Talent/Drama Show

In the past, parents have organized plays and talent shows for the kids at Glenview!

After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP)

Not currently offered due to state regulations. In the past, this committee assembled the enrichment programs to be offered at Glenview after school. Members of the committee coordinate with the school regarding space and consider a wide variety of enrichment programs to offer at Glenview. Look for information on the After School Enrichment Program page.
